Why is it so quiet around here?
Well, you’ve no doubt noticed a slight (read: extreme) reduction in post frequency lately. Allow me to explain.
In the beginning…
I started this site to chronicle my quest to climb the seven summits and add some adventure to my life.
I thought I would also try to cover some news and events from the world of adventure and mountaineering and post good news, links, and such; something to keep things interesting for my readers and not have the site be 100% about me, me, me.
What I did not realize at the time is that there are other great sites that do this infinitely better than I ever could.
It’s become clear that even though I’m passionate about adding some adventure to my life, and learning to climb big mountains, it’s still not a big enough part of my day-to-day existence that I have enough to say about it to sustain a successful and interesting site.
To niche, or not to niche?
The blogging ‘experts’ claim that to have a successful blog/site you need to chose a niche and become a specialist/rockstar in that niche. Well, I don’t think that’s true.
In my case, I think the only way that I’ll be able to have a site that I can contribute to regularly, and with a bit more authority in the topics I’m discussing, is if I include the other passions in my life; maybe even a bit about my work.
I look at sites like MattBrett.com and that is the kind of site I want. He’s managed to very successfully merge his interests, passions, personal life, and even work life in to an informative, and entertaining site.
What now?
Well, posts will continue to be slow while I rework this site, and tend to other distractions.
Not only does this site need to be redesigned, but more importantly I need to completely re-evaluate my vision for the site, and establish a broader set of topics.
A couple of other things that have been keeping me busy are the small business I’m trying to get off the ground, and a top secret project which I’ll try and discuss in more detail a bit later on.
I’d like to thank those of you who’ve been return readers; especially Kraig, DSD, and Brett who’ve been frequent commenters/supporters. I hope that you’ll stick around after the transition!

I’m still here, and will be when you finish the redesign.
I’m not sure I know anything about being a “successful blogger”, although I do appreciate your kind words. But I do know that you have to write about the things that interest you and you’re passionate about, which seems like where you want to go, and you have to find your own voice over time.
A refocus and change of pace is not a bad thing at all, and if anything, it will make your site more unique and interesting than ever. I can’t wait to see what you’ve got in store for us.

I have your blog in my feedreader and reads your posts with interest.
It all began when I read a book by and about the first Dane to reach the seven summits: Søren Gudmann. He also attempted to be the quickest person in the world to reach them. And was beat by a few days in the end. I then started reading more books about mountain adventures and especially about Everest expeditions. And then I found this blog.
I will keep reading and I hope you reach your goals one day.
