Explore the Alps Without Leaving Home
A while back I brought you “How to explore Antarctica without leaving home,” an interactive/educational tour of the the Antarctic continent.
Well, it is now my pleasure to once again invite you to grab your virtual luggage, overpay for a virtual plain ticket, and join me on an interactive and educational tour of the Alps.
Journey Through the Alps
I came across this site as I was doing a bit of research on the Imax movie I plan on seeing this week called the Alps.
The information provided is very good, and really pretty interesting.
“Journey through the Alps” is a one-hour educational companion to the MacGillivray Freeman [Imax] film The Alps.

This virtual/educational tour is really well done. It does talk a bit about the Alps themselves, but the focus seems to really be on the “human geography” of the Alps. So it goes through the events that first led to people conquering the alps, current uses by those living around the area, and so on.

The Rest of the Site
Once you’re done going through presentation, I’d recommend you stick around and check out some other parts of the site.
The site also includes info about:
- The Alps Imax film,
- A Timeline of Eiger mountaineering history,
- The Alpine way of Life,
- …and much more.
I’ll be checking out the Imax movie this week, and if the views are as nice on Imax film as they seem to be in the photography of this website, I’m in for a treat!
