Thoughts on reaching for dreams
It’s amazing how a site like this can really clear things up in your mind.
Originally, this all started because a friend and I wanted to climb Kilimanjaro. Somehow it turned in to this crazy idea to climb the worlds seven tallest summits. And now, it’s really become a dream for me. Not some silly “I wish I was married to Angelina Jolie” dream, but something truly important to me and anchored very deeply in my heart.
Even though I’m still very early in the process of reaching for those dreams, I’ve already encountered significant opposition in a few people that I’ve talked about it with. People who’ve looked at me square in the face, shook their heads, and said: “You don’t have what it takes, you’ll never make it.”
I’m not sure what happens to some people, where at some point they just stop believing that people can achieve great things. Maybe they’ve had their dreams crushed, or perhaps given up on them. I don’t know.
I, on the other hand, am a believer. Not only in myself, but in others. I think people are capable of greatness. I’m not sure why, or where it comes from, but I believe in the endurance and power of the human spirit.
Some would say this is a weakness. Putting too much faith in people. Well, I don’t agree, and I don’t intend to change. What I do intend to do is keep on dreaming, and keep on believing. Some day I’ll have succeeded in my quest, reached my dream, and the dissaproval of the non believers will make that victory all the sweeter.
To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.

“Obstacles are necessary for success… as in all careers of importance, victory comes only after many struggles and countless defeats. Yet each struggle, each defeat, sharpens your skills and strengths, your courage and your endurance, your ability and your confidence and thus each obstacle is a comrade-in-arms forcing you to become better… or quit. Each rebuff is an opportunity to move forward; turn away from them, avoid them, and you throw away your future.” ~ Og Mandino

“Keep your dreams alive. Understand to achieve anything requires faith and belief in yourself, vision, hard work, determination, and dedication. Remember all things are possible for those who believe.”
“To dream anything that you want to dream. That’s the beauty of the human mind. To do anything that you want to do. That is the strength of the human will. To trust yourself to test your limits. That is the courage to succeed.”
I believe in you D.B. I don’t doubt for a single second that you will achieve this. After all, I followed my 3 month dream of moving to Korea. Oh wait, that wasn’t MY dream… jk. I’m proud of u. Xoxooxoox
