Please forgive the "default" theme. I'm currently in the process of giving the site an overdue redesign. The new look should be ready soon.

Mountain Profile 1 of 8: Kilimanjaro

Monday, February 26th, 2007

Well, the Kilimanjaro page is finally completed.

It was actually a much bigger challenge than I thought it would be. Mostly since I have not yet climbed it myself. It was easy to find stats about the mountain, geography, etc; but not so easy to find info about the actual act of climbing it. Everyone says that you pass through muddy jungle, then rock, etc. I want to know how the camp sites are? How’s the food!!! You know, the day to day things.

SO I’ve invited all of my wonderful readers to participate in the discussion, and leave me comments either on the Kilimanjaro page, this post, or by email and I’ll be happy to incorporate your experiences and advice in to the page (with due credit, of course!) and eventually we should have a pretty complete profile of the mountain.

Enjoy!

Update: I’ve decided to wait until I’ve climbed the mountains before writing the mountain profiles. More on that here…

8 Part Series: Mountain Profiles

Tuesday, February 20th, 2007

Starting next week I will be posting a weekly ‘Mountain Profile’ covering each of the Summits on my ‘Seven Summit’ list.

Why 8? Well, as previously mentionned, to avoid the Carstensz vs. Kosciuszko debate I plan on climbing both - hence bringing the 7 summits up to 8. The first profile will be on Kilimanjaro, as it is the first I plan on tackling, and will be ready by Monday.

This excercise will go a long way in helping me understand what I’m really up against. I intend to include some info about the geography, the history of climbing on the mountain, and information about current climbing activity and techniques. (more…)

The New Tagline

Friday, February 16th, 2007

Well, some of you may have noticed the new tagline.

7 Summits + 2 Poles = The Ultimate Adventure!

I’ve decided to officially include the Poles in my quest. I always intended to do them after the Seven Summit Quest, but why not have it all be part of one big adventure? An adventure Grand Slam!

Thoughts on reaching for dreams

Friday, February 16th, 2007

It’s amazing how a site like this can really clear things up in your mind.

Originally, this all started because a friend and I wanted to climb Kilimanjaro. Somehow it turned in to this crazy idea to climb the worlds seven tallest summits. And now, it’s really become a dream for me. Not some silly “I wish I was married to Angelina Jolie” dream, but something truly important to me and anchored very deeply in my heart. (more…)
